India won five medals on the day Bajrang Punia was advised by his coach not to compete with a hurt elbow. Ravi Kumar grabbed the gold in the Asian Wrestling Championship being held at Almaty (Kazakhstan).

Ravi Kumar Dahiye – 57kg Final Gold

The 57kg gold medal match between India’s Ravi Kumar and Iran’s Alireza Nosratolah Sarlak. Ravi leads 2-1 starting minute, but Scores was tied at 2-2. Ravi Kumar takes a 4-3 lead in a gripping contest, he extends his lead, And it’s Gold for Ravi who wins by a margin of 9-4, Class act from Ravi Kumar who defends his title from last year.

Bajrang Punia – 65kg Final Silver

Star wrestler Bajrang Punia in action versus Japan’s Takuto Otoguro in the 65kg final, Revenge will be on the cards for Punia as he will look to atone for the loss suffered in last year’s final against Otoguro in New Delhi. Bajrang Punia suffers injury defeat versus Otoguro.

The two stars, however, couldn’t face off for the third time in their career as Bajrang Punia skipped the final, handing his opponent the win. The Indian wrestler later revealed that he ended up aggravating his elbow during the quarter-finals.

“When I was pulling the Korean, the pain in my right elbow resurfaced. It’s the same elbow that I had injured during the World Championship,” the Tokyo-bound Bajrang told PTI. “The coaches advised that I must not take a risk so close to the Olympics, so I withdrew.”

Bajrang Punia, who settled for a silver, had lost his two previous bouts to Takuto Otoguro, once in the 2018 World Championships final and the other at last year’s Asian meet.

Karan Bronze 70kg Medal Match Bronze

India’s Karan will next be in action in the 70kg bronze medal match, Karan’s match against South Korea’s Lee Seungbong, Karan takes a 1-0 lead, extends his advantage by 3-0, and grabs the bronze medal after a 3-1 win.

Narsingh Yadav- 79kg Bronze Medal Match Bronze

India’s Narsingh Yadav will next be in action in the 79kg bronze medal match, Yadav’s opponent will be Iraq’s Ahmed Mohsin Kadhim Al Gburi, Yadav races into a 2-0 lead, he then leads 5-2, has a commanding 7-2 lead now Narsingh Yadav beat Ahmed Al Gburi of Iraq 8-2 for his bronze in the 79kg non-Olympic category.

Satyawart Kadian Bronze Medal Match Bronze

India’s Satyawart Kadian too was among medals, winning a bronze in the 97kg category with a 5-2 win over South Korea’s Minwon Seo.
