Manchester United defeat Aston Villa 2-1 stretching their unbeaten domestic run to 10 games.

Man Utd’s victory over Aston Villa – decided by a Bruno Fernandes penalty after Bertrand Traoré had cancelled out Anthony Martial’s opener – levelling on points with the Premier League champions separating both the sides only by virtue of goal difference

Both the teams had their half chances till the end of the first half before Martial headed home from an Aaron Wan-Bissaka cross on a rapid-fire counter-attack to stake the hosts to a 1-0 lead at the break.

Bertrand Traore’s levelled for his team in 58th minute a calm finish underneath David de Gea had deservedly drawn Villa level

United were nine points behind Liverpool after a 1-0 defeat by Arsenal at Old Trafford on 1 November but have made up that gap in just two months to set an intriguing title race into motion.

“It’s two extra points if we lose at the end,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports. “Eric [Bailly] makes a fantastic block. I didn’t enjoy the last ten minutes, we should have played the game out in a better way.

“It felt like a cup final. We need to play our games better when we have the lead.

“[Aston Villa] have improved massively and they’ve given us chances. We didn’t stop the crosses well enough, but we’ve made some blocks and saves. I’m pleased with the three points.”
