Tottenham Hotspur spoiled Newcastle United’s party after taking on a victory of 3-2 at St
James’ Park on Sunday.
Despite Castle’s Callum Wilson’s early opening goal Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane, and Son Heung-Min scored in the first half to give Hotspur’s the lead of 3-1.
It was Newcastle’s new dawn under the ownership of the Saudi sovereign wealth after a 305 million euro takeover last week. New chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and co-owner Amanda Staveley received a hero welcome from the crowd of 55,000 when he was presented before kick-off.
The Tottenhamer’s made it 2-1 shortly after the match began when Tanguy Ndombele hit the and Harry Kane netted the ball over Karl Darlow. The shot was initially discarded as
the referee declared it for offside but was later awarded a goal following a VAR review and the England Captain grabbed his first Premier League Goal of the season.
After 40 minutes of play, the game was temporarily halted when players were alerted of the medical emergencies in the Newcastle stand. Tottenham pair Sergio Reguilon and Eric Dier were named joint men of the match for their role in alerting the match official and medical staff the severity of the incident.
The fan required medical assistance and was later said ‘stable and responsive’, post to which he was taken to hospital. Tottenham defender Eric Dier ran to the touchline and urged medical staff to attend with a defibrillator.
12 minutes after the match was halted, officials informed that the game will be resumed and both the teams will finish the first half of the game.
Moments after the restart, Spurs grabbed a third goal when Son Heung-Min delivered the ball into Newcastle’s net.
In the second half, Jonjo Shelvey picked up two bookings in the 20 minutes which left Steve Bruce’s team with 10 men left on the field. Eric Dier’s comical own goal gave Newcastle’s some but Steve Bruce featuring in his 1,000th match in management could not grab an equalizer and ended up with 3-2 defeat.
