Joe Willock snatched a 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield with a goal in stoppage-time.

Mo Salah’s fourth-minute rocket seemed to be enough to give Liverpool the three points and put them back in the top four.

Joelinton was denied by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson on 55 minutes while Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold missed further opportunities for the Reds.

Having failed to beat Martin Dubravka for a second time despite a range of changes, Liverpool’s timidity in the closing stages suddenly gave Newcastle belief that an improbable point was on the cards.

Newcastle substitute Callum Wilson had a goal overturned in stoppage time following a VAR review for handball by him.

But moments later, Willock struck from the bench for the second match in a row, after netting the winner versus West Ham United last weekend.

A fourth match without defeat leaves 15th-placed Newcastle nine points clear of the bottom three.

Liverpool climb to sixth on 54 points, one behind Chelsea and West Ham, who play later in the day.
