Manchester City on Thursday announced the signing of “natural talent” Jack Grealish on a six-year deal from Aston Villa for a British record fee of £100m ($139m).

The 25-year-old joins Man City wearing the number 10 shirt recently vacated by Sergio Aguero.

The fee surpasses the £89m Manchester United paid to re-sign midfielder Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016.

“I am incredibly happy to have joined Manchester City, City are the best team in the country with a manager considered to be the best in the world – it’s a dream come true to be part of this club,” Grealish said.

“Over the past 10 seasons, they have won major trophies consistently. Pep coming here has taken them to the next level and the football this team plays is the most exciting in Europe.

“To play for Pep and learn from him is going to be special and it’s something any top footballer would want. “he facilities are amazing, and I honestly can’t wait to get started, meet everyone and get playing.”

Jack Grealish has made 213 appearances for Villa since his debut in 2014, scoring 32 goals and laying on 43 assists.

He had four years remaining on his Villa contract, scored six times in the league last season and provided 10 assists.

After making Grealish their first signing of the summer, City remain keen to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

Jack Grealish got down to business on Friday morning after joining City from Aston Villa.

After an exhausting 24 hours or so, it was boots and bib on and out onto the lush CFA first team training pitch.
