Late goals by Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell earned Chelsea a 3-1 win over 10-man Southampton to go top of the table.

In the match which saw rain pouring at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea went on to defeat
Southampton by 3-1 because of late strikes from Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell.

Trevoh Chalobah gave Chelsea the early lead by heading the ball from very close range to the bottom left corner, assisted by Ruben Loftus-Cheek following a corner in the 9th minute of the game.

Romelu Lukaku scored in the 36th minute of the match but was ruled out for offside. Werner who is often referred to as the luckless striker for not being able to score goals went on to celebrate his goal four minutes before halftime.

Then came the dreaded pause, where referee Mark Atkinson was alerted by VAR of the possible earlier foul. It was an innocuous foul and happened a lot earlier in the game, but nonetheless, the goal was discarded.

Where half-time finished at 1-0, James Ward-Prowse converted a goal off the penalty just on the hour mark before he was sent off for a reckless tackle after 75 minutes.

Chelsea was eager to win this one against Southampton to break their losing streak, where they had earlier lost to Manchester City and against Juventus in Turin.

Chelsea was threatened to end the game at 1-1 against the 10 men Southampton, and then came the left-footed shot from Werner.

Jersey number 11 who was earlier discarded a goal for no fault of his own kept his cool, preserved himself, and waited for the very right moment to take Chelsea to the lead of 2-1. It was Weenerโ€™s first goal of the premier league.

The time ticked to the 89th minute and then came another left-footed shot from Ben Chilwell from the left side of the box to the top left corner to ensure that Chelsea is today going to seal their top spot on the Premier league table.
