After Kevin De Bruyne’s double in Tuesday’s 7-0 thrashing of Leeds, Pep Guardiola praised the Belgian’s return to form.

After a summer of injury troubles and a period out with the coronavirus, City’s top playmaker has had a slow start to the season.

As the champions swept Leeds away with shocking ease at the Etihad Stadium to record their seventh straight Premier League victory in style, he looked back to his best.

Before halftime, De Bruyne scored City’s third goal of the night, and just after the hour, he made it 5-0 with a thunderbolt of a shot.

Kevin trained well the previous two days, “City boss Pep Guardiola remarked.” He lacked rhythm against Wolves, but it’s not simple to get back on track (after COVID-19).

Kevin is the best in these kinds of games, which are a little more open and put a lot of people in front of him.

City took on Leeds right on, with Phil Foden scoring the score after just eight minutes. Guardiola scored the club’s 500th Premier League goal in just his 207th game in charge, setting a new record for the division.

In a strong showing that delighted the home crowd, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, John Stones, and Nathan Ake all scored.

“We played incredibly well,” Guardiola added. We lost five points to Leeds last season, and except for Jack, it was the same team today.

“The game was fantastic, but the stadium was incredible.” It was completely sold out, and the players knew it. Thank you a lot.

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa made no apologies for his team’s poorest performance since he took over the club in 2018.

“The city plays like this all the time, or something comparable to it, but we’ve never played so poorly in the last four years.”

It was enough. There is nothing to take away from our performance that is positive. I can’t seem to locate anything useful.

“I have no reason to complain; the game was exactly what we expected.”

“We prepared ourselves to avert everything that happened, but we were unable to do so.”
