As CSK captain MS Dhoni led his team to the IPL 2021 final, Virat Kohli turned to Twitter to respond to MS Dhoni’s brilliant knock.

MS Dhoni smashed 18 runs off only six deliveries against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 Qualifier 1 to propel his team to the tournament’s final. While Dhoni’s knock enthralled spectators, current India skipper Virat Kohli couldn’t help but express his emotions after seeing Dhoni smash the ball to all parts of the ground to clinch the contest.

Kohli said in a tweet that Dhoni’s knock caused him to leap out of his seat.”Anddddd the king is back the greatest finisher ever in the game. Made me jump Out of my seat once again tonight. @msdhoni,” Kohli tweeted.

It was a vintage Dhoni show, where he finished the match hitting 12 runs in the final over to seal Chennai Super Kings a place in the finals of IPL 2021. CSK required 19 runs off the last 8 balls when MS Dhoni banged the ball over mid-wicket for 6 runs.

In the last over CSK needed 13 runs with Moen Ali on strike, with Rabada still had an over to bowl Rishabh Pant went to Tom Curran to bowl the last over, and he got the cap of Moen Ali on the first ball. Dhoni hit 3 fours in the next 3 balls to finish the match in style and sail his team into the finals.

The evening of 10th October at Dubai International Cricket Stadium saw the table-toppers of IPL facing each other to have a seat into the finals. CSK opted to bowl, which was quite expected of the pitch to chase and win the match.

Prithvi Shaw as usual went berserk and began attacking Deepak Chahar and Josh Hazelwood across the boundaries but his in-form partner Shikhar Dhawan could not settle his eyes and edged the ball into MS DHoni’s gloves. Shreyas Iyer, the most reliable batter for Capitals’ also went back playing a loose shot. Prithvi Shaw who could not resist and kept scoring runs all over the ground unless Jadeja’s tossed up outside off ball got Prithvi Shaw out at mid-off.

Delhi was 4 down at 80 and it was all up to skipper Rishabh Pant and ShimronHetmyer, and guess what they didn’t disappoint. This was another class innings from Rishabh and Hetty under pressure to bulk up 83 run partnership to elevate DC’s score to 163. 180 was the score that DC would have been targeting to get but Hetmyer’s wicket did create a halt on scoring runs and Rishabh Pant could only score 8 runs in the final over.

CSK needed 173 off 20 overs to win the match. Chennai Super Kings had the best opening pair of the season but could not withstand more than 3 runs, all credits to Nortje who bowled Faf du Plessis with a quicker ball.

Uthappa and Gaikwad shines for CSK

Uthappa who get the chances in place for injured Raina took the charge and did not let the pressure build on his team. Right from the first ball, he was very clear on his intent to carry the game forward, the depth in CSK’s batting allowed Uthappa to go on from the very first ball. There cannot be a better example of capitalizing on the opportunity better than Uthappa.

Gaikwad and Uthappa’s partnership made Chennai Super Kings the favourites again, but the qualifier of IPL cannot get over without a twist in it. It was a short ball from Tom Curran and Uthappa hit a pull of it which almost went for a six if Shreyas Iyer with his great composure would have not been there, Iyer took the catch of Uthappa at long-on and again took the catch of Shardul Thakur in the same over.

Commentators of cricket say it right, you can’t keep a player out of the match, in the very next over Shreyas Iyer helped in making a run out which brought Delhi Capitals back into the match.

CSK needed 52 of last 5 overs and settled Ruturaj Gaikwad made it look easy for CSK, Gaikwad, and Moen Ali scored 10 runs every over to keep the required run-rate under check. With Ruturaj Gaikwad’s wicket in the second last over, Delhi might have some hope for a Vintage Dhoni show of 18 runs from 6 balls vanished all the hopes for Capitals’.

CSK is now into the finals and Delhi Capitals will now play with the winner of Eliminator. Eliminator will be played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore on 11th October.
