T Natarajan, who was a sensation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, on Friday was included in the Indian squad for the last two Tests against Australia
Umesh had sustained a strain in his left calf muscle on the third day of the second Test in Melbourne and has been ruled out of the series.
Indian batsman Rohit Sharma will join the Test team as its vice-captain. The Indian opener had missed the limited-overs series and was not part of the team in its first two matches due to a hamstring injury.
“Ahead of the Boxing Day Test, Shardul Thakur was added to the Test squad as Mohd. Shami’s replacement after the senior fast bowler suffered a hairline fracture in his right forearm. Both Shami and Umesh Yadav will head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further rehabilitation of their injuries” BCCI said in a release.

Natarajan made his T20 international debut and One Day International (ODI) debut in the current tour of India in Australia. Natarajan stayed on in Australia with the squad after a successful limited-overs initiation into the Indian team.
Natarajan could potentially go onto make his Test debut and become the only player to earn national caps in all three formats of the game, in the same series.
