Super Kings skipper Dhoni once again finishes off in style when he grabbed the opportunity to open his arms in the last over to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad at Sharjah Cricket Stadium by 6 wickets.

Sunrisers Hyderabad who lost the toss were invited to bat had a disastrous start as Jason Roy and Captain Kane Williamson departed early. SRH could only manage to score 134 runs in 20 overs.

Wridhiman Saha stood as the lone warrior for the team, he was the highest run-getter who was earlier saved because of No ball in Shardul Thakur’s over. In the 13th over of the innings, Saha lost his shape on trying to play a pull shot on short delivery bowled by Ravindra Jadeja and offering a thick top-edge and giving an easy catch to MS Dhoni. Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad hit some fine shorts but Josh Hazelwood’s one fine over ensured that SRH would not be able to post a good total.

Chennai Super Kings evergreen opening partnership had a fine start as Faf Du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad added 75 runs for the first wicket unless Jason Holder asked Ruturaj Gaikwad to hit over mid-off and giving a simple catch to Kane Williamson.

Rashid Khan who never goes wicketless bowled Moen Ali in his last over. In the 16th over Jason Holder did stall a surge with a couple of wickets when he got rid of Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis adding some hope in the SRH dugout.

MS Dhoni then joined Ambati Raydu and took the game deep and then hitting an over-pitched delivery over mid-wicket to seal a place for Chennai Super Kings into Play-offs.

Chennai Super Kings who finished 7th on the points table in 2020 become the first team to qualify for play-offs in 2021. “It means a lot, because the last time, we said we wanted to come back strong. We are known for that and there was a lot at stake”, said MS Dhoni in the post-match presentation.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s who had an unforgettable season is out of the play-offs now, the team has only managed to get 4 points in 11 matches. This is the first time since 2016 that SRH will not be playing in the Play-offs.
