David Miller smashed 2 sixes off the last over to get South Africa their second win of the
Skipper Bavuma scored 46 runs in the chase, and David Miller did the rest of the
job. Wanindu Hasaranga took a hat-trick in the match but couldn’t turn the match in their
favor. He became the first spinner to get a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup.
Sri Lanka batting first didn’t have a great start, as they lost Kusal Perera pretty early in the
innings. Asalanka who has been in great form was unlucky to get run out in the 9th over, and it was another middle-order collapse for Sri Lanka on another day. If it wouldn’t have been Pathum Nissanka, Sri Lanka would have succumbed to the South African bowling unit pretty early but Nissanka holding one side got Sri Lanka’s score to 142 in 20 overs.
South Africa who were favorites in the match opened with Quinton de Kock 12(10) and Reeza Hendricks 11(12), as Temda Bavuma shifted himself to the middle order, but both the openers went to the dugout in the powerplay by Dushmantha Chameera.
Van der Dussen who had scored a century against Pakistan in the warm-up match was unfortunate to get run out in the 8th over.
Sri Lanka was getting favorites at this point to win the match as South Africa’s middle-
order except Markram couldn’t have been fruitful enough to win the match.
Aiden Markram and Temda Bavuma were slowly fetching a partnership to but the required run-rate kept ticking but yet it was not out of reach for the two batters who are already set on the pitch.
Wanindu Hasaranga first got Aiden Markram on the last ball of the 15th over and then he got Temba Bavuma and Dwaine Pretorius on the first two deliveries of the 18th over to become the first spinner to get a hat-trick in the T20 world cup.
South Africa was down and out at this stage as David Miller was not in great touch and the pitch at Sharjah has been favoring bowlers more than the batters, but it was the vintage Miller and a couple of hits from Kagiso Rabada to get South Africa their second victory of the tournament.
It was 15 from the last over and Proteas got 18 from 5 balls to register this victory.
