Renegades young gun Mackenzie Harvey smoked 47* off 21 to drive the Renegades to their third win of the season at Marvel Stadium.

The Renegades lost the duties of Kane Richardson, Noor Ahmad and Rilee Rossouw for the remainder of the season, but Josh Lalor marked his return with an outstanding maiden over.

The left-arm seamer swung the ball both directions and didn’t allow Andre Fletcher (14-ball 11) to get off to a floating start. The Spiceman cleared some pressure by slamming Lalor for two boundaries but the paceman knocked him over with a slower delivery in the same over.
Imad Wasim, however, bowled with good control and was economical. With Nick Larkin not scoring easily, Stoinis tried to up the ante but was dismissed by Evans for a 27-ball 37 in the 9th over.

Nathan Coulter-Nile was promoted up the order but Evans knocked him over for a golden duck. Glenn Maxwell just had time to find his score when he was caught on 1 by Fraser-McGurk.

But the Stars found some settle by Larkin and Nic Maddinson to steady the craft. Maddinson hit a couple of sixes but was caught on 21 by Beau Webster as he tried to smash Peter Hatzoglou.

The Renegades skipper Aaron Finch rotated his bowlers well and kept the pressure on Larkin.

The Power Surge (overs 17-18) was going to be crucial for the Stars but Hatzoglou dismissed Maddinson 21 runs off 18 deliveries who was looking dangerous. He then got rid of Hilton Cartwright (4) in the same over to keep the momentum in the Renegades’ favour. The legspinner was self-contradictory but finished with figures of 2/34.

Nick Larkin 61 runs off 47 deliveries comprising 8 fours and 1 six. The Stars managed 39 in their last three overs and posted a competitive total of 158/6 in their 20 overs.

While Chasing 159 runs target Melbourne Renegades worst possible start Shaun Marsh (1) and Finch (10) had a point to prove but Marsh dismissed by Coulter-Nile in the very first over. Finch, who is having his worst BBL season, tried to sweep Zahir Khan but the ball flicked his thigh pad and ricocheted onto the stumps.

Jake Fraser-McGurk 20 runs off 19 deliveries also went cheaply as the Renegades reached the 11-over mark 3-60.

Sam Harper 39 dismissed by Stoinic and Jack Prestwidge 14 runs dismissed by Coulter-Nile it is Coulter-Nile’s third wickets.

Mackenzie Harvey took the attack to Coulter-Nile and Zampa and kept his team alive. The young left-hander hit three fours and a six in the Power Surge and helped his team score 22 runs in those two overs.

After Harvey blasted Coulter-Nile for a six, Webster fumed the paceman for a four and a six in the same over to turn the game in the Renegades’ favour. The Men in Red needed six runs in the final over and Webster sealed the deal by whacking Hatcher through deep mid-wicket, giving the Renegades their third win of the season.

Mackenzie Harvey, Man of the Match: Can’t put it into words, playing a derby at home. It was a good effort from the bowlers, it came off well today. A complete team performance. Like I said before, it’s absolutely outstanding playing at home and winning.

The score: Melbourne Stars 6-158 (Larkin 61no, Stoinis 37; Evans 2-23) lost to Melbourne Renegades 5-160 (Harvey 47no, Webster 22no; Coulter-Nile 3-41) by five wickets with two balls remaining.
