India lost to Pakistan in their opening T20 world cup match to Pakistan by 10 wickets in Dubai.
India had won each of 12 of their world cup match against Pakistan, which includes 5 wins in the T20 world cup. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan scored 68 and 79 not out to clinch Pakistan’s first victory against India.
Virat Kohli in a post-match conference said, “Pakistan really outplayed us”.
The most awaited match for Indian and Pakistan cricket fans began at Dubai International
Stadium with Pakistan deciding to bowl first, considering dew was the factor in the latter part of the match.
Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul opened the innings but a disappointing start from both
the openers and inswingers from Shaheen Afridi early in the innings led India to lose two early wickets in two overs.
Suryakumar Yadav after hitting two boundaries tried to slice Hasan Ali’s ball but ended up giving a catch to wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan. Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant after 3 early wickets batted consciously and Rishabh Pant after getting a slow start began
hitting one-hand sixes, which he is well known for, but a leading edge on Shadab Khan’s ball cost him his wicket.
Virat Kohli who never got out against Pakistan in the T20 world cup batted responsibly or as we say, he played the skipper’s knock just when it was needed the most and kept rotating India’s score.
However, he could not continue with his unbeaten streak and got out in the 19th over, of Shaheen Afridi’s ball.
India could manage to get 151 in 20 overs. It was Shaheen Afridi’s hard length balls that restricted India to a total of 151.
Virat Kohli in a post- match conference said, “Afridi was very good today, he bowled in the right areas and credit goes to him”.
Pakistan chasing a decent total began with 10 overs in the first over. Babar Azam and
Mohammad Rizwan’s aim was to get enough runs in the powerplay and did not let down their team and got 43 runs without losing a single wicket.
Indian bowlers did everything they could do to get back into the match but it was one of the best days for Pakistani batters, to be precise it was the best day for their opening batters.
“They were really good as a team, we tried to build pressure on them, but Pakistan had answers to every question. They outplayed us in today’s game, and there’s no shame in accepting that”, Virat Kohli said.
Skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan reached the target of 152 in 17.5 overs and celebrated like it was expected to be. This was Pakistan’s first victory against Indian in the World Cup tournament, and will next face New Zealand on 26 October.
India will play against New Zealand on 31st October at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Sri Lanka earlier defeated Bangladesh by 5 wickets in their first match of Super 12.
