Nathan McAndrew magnificent bowling Sydney Thunder beat Hobart Hurricanes by 39 runs to go leap of BBL 10 table

Sydney Thunder has Usman Khawaja (49) and Alex Ross (44*) to thank for a strong total after being sent into bat, reaching 5/167 from their 20 overs. In their two power surge overs, Thunder had managed 28 runs without losing a wicket and was well on course to getting about 165 with two overs to go. 13 came off Nathan Ellis’ second to last over and in the final over. Sydney Thunder scores nine to take their final total to 167 for 5. Ben Cutting and Alex Ross brought up their 50-run stand off just 27 deliveries – a much-needed one for Thunder. In the end, Thunder has managed to set a competitive total.

Hobart Hurricanes got off to a steady start in the chase before Nathan McAndrew struck twice in the fifth over, taking the crucial duo of D’Arcy Short and Ben McDermott for 19 and 22 respectively.

Although the Hobart Hurricanes rebounded to reach the half-way mark 2/77, claiming the Bash Boost Point with Handscomb and Malan steadying the ship.

Malan (20 off 23) fell in the 12th over when Chris Green struck with a sizzling almost-yorker, leaving the Hurricanes 3/92.

Tanveer Sangha before had the settled Peter Handscomb stumped as the batsman stepped down the pitch and the ball pinched past the edge of the bat. Handscomb dismissed on 30 from 24.

Tim David out off two of three as Nair had him slashing the ball straight to Ferguson. The Canes were 5/106 with five and a half overs remaining but had two fresh batsmen at the crease.

Tanveer Sangha trapped his second wicket when Sam Billings snared a superb catch behind the stumps when Colin Ingram had a thin edge of a wild swipe, Ingram falling for 12 off 14.

The Hurricanes were 6/112 and needing more than 12 an over, but took the Power Surge immediately, at the start of the 17th over.

It didn’t bring them any change in fortunes, with Milne conceding four singles in a row before skittling the stumps of X-Factor Mac Wright (5 off 7).

Green’s stellar yorker-bowling struck again early the next over, getting Nick Winter for a second-ball duck.

The Hurricanes remained 8-117. They continued to battle on but finished 39 runs short.

I was stoked to get those two (Hurricanes openers), both are class players. The plan for me was simple: to bowl fast and straight, and see what happens. Usman did a good job today and all the bowlers were great today.
