Morris’ explosive cameo helps Rajasthan Royals get off the mark with a last-over thriller in IPL 2021.

Full Scorecard
Rajasthan Royals 7-150 ( 19.4 overs )
Delhi Capitals 8-147 ( 20.0 overs )
Rajasthan Royals win by 3 wickets

Rajasthan Royals (RR) started superbly as left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat departed away from Delhi Capital (DC)’s top-order with intelligent bowling. Unadkat, come back to the RR side, showcased his experienced and maturity by bamboozling the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane to break the backbone of the side. However, DC skipper leads a brilliant comeback by the time the last reports came in. DC was batting at 77 runs for the loss of four wickets at the end of 11 overs.

As Rahul Tewatia, right-arm leg break, comes into the attack, Pant clobbered him all over the park 4 4 4 2 2 4 – 20 runs off the single over to single-handedly bring Delhi Capitals back into the attack. What a performer this guy is While any other batsman would have gone into a shell in such a situation, Pant backed his game and now striking at 173. This is the kind of self-assurance that makes a solid T20 player.

An enterprising knock comes to an end in the most unfortunate manner. Rishabh Pant, just after completing his fifty and guiding Delhi to a comfortable position, was run out.

Lalit Yadav 20 runs off 24 deliveries wicket took by Chris Morris. Tom Curran and Chris Woakes trying their level best against some fine death bowling by the RR pacers. DC 124/6 in 18 overs but Mustafizur strikes again as he claims a dangerous-looking Tom Curran.

Delhi Capitals will absolutely be gutted by this performance tonight. Barring Rishabh Pant, no one really got going and eventually end up with a sub-par score of 147 in 20 over.

Pick of the bowler for Delhi Capitals Jaydev Unadkat who accounting 3 wickets and Mustafizur Rahman 2 wickets.

While chasing the target of 148 runs Rajasthan Royals (RR) lost 4 quick wickets in the power play. Jos Buttler 2 runs Manan Vohra 9 runs skipper Sanju Samson 4 runs and Shivam Dube 2 runs. Kagiso Rabada claims Rahul Tewatia’s wicket for 19 runs. Riyan Parag 2 runs and David Miller departs for 62 off 43 balls to both wickets claim by Avesh Khan as RR struggle at 104/7 in 15.5 overs.

Pant’s Blunder fails to gather the ball to dismiss Jaydev Unadkat through a run-out. RR hanging in there.

Chris Morris proving his haters wrong. Morris gives a thumbs up to the dugout before Unadkat runs over for a big hug. The most expensive IPL buy has shown his worth here today.

Unadkat, Player of the Match: Have a lot of experience now I can say of handling tough situations. Was kind of a homecoming for me. Was bowling with the kind of freedom I wanted with the new ball. Couldn’t do that last season. Had to step up this time. Didn’t get the first game so I knew the chances when they come, I have to take them.

Sanju Samson: Had some hopes with Miller and Morris to come but to be really honest I thought that it was tough from there and I think the boys did really well to get over the line. It’s about reading the conditions. Was a bit sticky to start with. Hard lengths and mixing up with the variations was the key. That’s also our strength – three left-armers. They are slightly different from the other so we can use it in a different way. We had a chat with him, he was very confident and very clear (Sakariya). Can’t do much, was just praying inside. Always sit back and review my game. If I play that match again 100 times I would not take the single (on denying strike to Morris last time).

Rishabh Pant: The bowlers did a good job at the start, but we let them get over us in the end. We could have bowled a bit better. It’s part and parcel of the game and dew played a big role in the end. We were 15-20 runs short. But at least there is something to gain from this match, the bowlers did a great job at the start. Hopefully if something like this happens we can pull it off. In the second innings, there was much more dew, so the slower ball wasn’t stopping. So we had to something in the second innings.

Delhi Capitals (Playing XI): Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant(w/c), Ajinkya Rahane, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Woakes, Ravichandran Ashwin, Lalit Yadav, Kagiso Rabada, Tom Curran, Avesh Khan.

Rajasthan Royals (Playing XI): Manan Vohra, Sanju Samson(w/c), David Miller, Jos Buttler, Shivam Dube, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Chris Morris, Chetan Sakariya, Jaydev Unadkat, Mustafizur Rahman.

Rajasthan Royals (RR): won the toss Skipper Sanju Samson: We would like to bowl first. The conditions demands that, it’s easier to bowl first. Matches come on in a very short time, you have to get over it. We have to take the learning experience and move on. We have plans for every batsmen. You are expected to go for runs here. We need to have a mindset of picking wickets. I am okay if our bowlers go for some runs, we there to score it back. David Miller comes in for Stokes. Unadkat replaces Gopal.

Rishabh Pant: On this wicket, toss doesn’t matter. The surface looks good. Good to hear that we have won the last five matches (against RR) but the team that plays well will in the match. DC bring in Kagiso Rabada and Lalit Yadav in place of Amit Mishra and Shimron Hetmyer.
