With each passing day we are nearing the start of the 13th edition of the IPL in UAE.

Most of the franchises have already arrived in the gulf country, where the 53-day tournament will be held, and are all over social media with pictures and videos of their players and staff in various luxurious hotels over there. Royal Challengers Bangalore also posted a picture on Instagram of the entire contingent aboard a chartered flight bound for Dubai but skipper Virat Kohli was nowhere to be seen in the snap.

This left fans with plenty of questions on Kohli’s absence and majority of the comments on the picture was related to him alone.

So, Why did Virat Kohli not travel with the RCB team to Dubai?

Before speculations could start its work, the franchise posted a picture of skipper Kohli posing in the backdrop of UAE. In the picture, he was standing in the veranda of his hotel room. But that still did not answer the question.

As per reports, the reason why Kohli did not travel with the team is because he was quarantining in Mumbai, the financial capital of India whereas the entire team was together in a pre-season camp in Bangalore. Reports said that as per norms since Kohli was not inside the bio-secure bubble with the rest of the team he could not fly to Dubai with the team. He had to fly separately in a chartered flight.

The 31-year-old also got himself tested twice for COVID-19 in Mumbai and both the tests have returned with negative results.

“He had quarantined himself in Mumbai and also tested himself for Covid-19. So he could not come to Bengaluru. He flew alone by a charter flight from Mumbai,” a spokesperson of the franchise told Mumbai Mirror.

The IPL will commence on September 19 and the final will be played on November 10. The matches will be held in three cities — Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
