It’s the 9th Match of Vivo IPL 2021 played between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

It’s still early days in this Vivo IPL 2021 where most teams are yet to figure out their best combinations, their best tactics and even their best personnel.

Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Openers Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma gave their side a good start, scoring 40 and 32 runs respectively, putting on a 50 plus run partnership.

Mumbai Indians reached three digit figure in the 14th over, they kept losing wicket at regular intervals.

Other than the opening pair of Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma , all-rounder Kieron Pollard gave MI a strong finish, with an unbeaten knock of 35 runs off 22 balls.

For Sunrisers Hyderabad Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Vijay Shankar took two wickets each for SRH, and Khaleel Ahmed registered a dismissal.

Pollard powered two sixes of the final two balls of Bhuvneshwar helped Mumbai Indians reach 150/5 in their quota of 20 overs.

Chasing a target of 151 runs, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) the opening pair of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow gave SRH a flying start with 67 runs partnership between them.

Halfway mark in the innings SRH were at 74/2.

A brilliant piece of fielding by Hardik Pandya to get rid of David Warner, SRH were 90/3 in the 12th over.

SRH kept losing wickets at regural intervals to the older, softer ball on a slow deck.

SRH were reduced to 137 all out in 19.4 Overs.

A brilliant bowling performance by Mumbai Indians keeping tight the run chase for SRH. Rahul Chahar and Trent Boult picked up three wickets each for Mumbai Indians.

Mumbai Indians defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs.

David Warner: I don’t know how to take that. Obviously disappointing. Two of us were set but it proves that if you don’t bat deep, you can’t win. That was my game-plan, a great piece of fielding from Hardik though. But that’s the game of cricket. These are very much chaseable targets, if you get a partnership and if there is one person at the end, you can chase it down. The guys need to play smart cricket in the middle, the bowlers have been fantastic and this wicket was slower than the previous wickets that we have played.

Rohit Sharma: It was a great effort from the bowling unit. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. On that pitch, when you’re bowling well, it’s not easy. I thought it was a good score on that pitch. You saw from both the teams, trying to capitalise on the powerplay. Having said that, I think we can bat better in the middle overs. All these guys have played a lot of cricket on pitches like these. So, there are areas to work on. Our fielding was really good tonight, that’s something we take pride in. Those run outs and also the catches.
