Before flying off to Dubai for playing in the cash-rich Indian Premier League 2020, the Chennai Super Kings team will host a 6-day conditioning camp for the players in Chennai but all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will not be a part of it.
When asked to explain the reason behind his absence, CSK Chief Executive Officer Kasi Vishwanathan said, ” He has personal commitments but he will reach Chennai in time to board the flight to Dubai on August 21.”
The conditioning camp, which is scheduled between August 15-20, will concentrate on fitness of the players along with other training activities. The team is scheduled to leave for Dubai on August 21.
All the other prominent players including the likes of skipper MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayada, Harbajan Singh and many others have confirmed their presence in the camp.
According to ESPNCricinfo, the Chennai franchise has acquired a written permission from the Tamil Nadu government to hold the camp at the MA Chidambaram stadium behind closed doors. Among the coaching staff, only bowling coach of the team Laxmipathy Balaji will be present at the camp with the players.
Head Coach Stephen Fleming and his assistant Michael Hussey will likely join the squad in Dubai by August 22.
With South Africa closing its borders to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and disallowing people from travelling in and out of the country without government permission, Vishwanathan said he is “hopeful” that the two proteas players, Faf Du Plessis and Lungi Ngidi, will join the team in Dubai after September 1.
“When we spoke to Faf and Ngidi they said yes, we are coming. They have said that they will only be coming after September 1,” Viswanathan said. Imran Tahir, who is the third South African player in the CSK set up will join the team in Dubai after taking part in the Carribean Premier League in Trinidad.
Vishwanathan further added that the South African backroom pair of bowling consultant Eric Simmons and physical trainer Greg King will join the team on August 21 in Dubai.
The much-awaited IPL 2020 will be held in the United Arab Emirates between September 19 to November 10. The matches will be held in three cities — Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
