Ab de Villiers score 73* to guide RCB consistent victory over KKR in IPL at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat, with both teams getting one change to their side. While RCB decided to give themselves an extra bowling option inducing in Mohammed Siraj in place of a specialist batsman Gurkeerat Singh Mann, KKR handed the debut cap to Tom Banton, who substituted Sunil Narine in the playing XI after he was reported for a suspect bowling action.

Devdutt Padikkal 32 runs off 23 balls and Aaron Finch 47 runs off 37 balls, who had gotten their side off to a swift start duo partnership 100 runs in 47 balls. For KKR Prasidh and Russell share wicket each.

AB de Villiers was at his brutal best versus Kolkata Knight Riders as 33-ball 73*, studded with five fours and six heights, moved Royal Challengers Bangalore to 194/2 in their 20 overs in Match No. 28 of the Indian Premier League 2020 in Sharjah on Monday.

KKR lost four wickets in quick succession as RCB tightened their grip on the match. Chasing 195 to win, KKR openers Shubman Gill and Tom Banton started cautiously. Navdeep Saini cleaned up debutant Banton to give RCB an early breakthrough.

After that KKR middle-order collapse in the short interval as Nitish Rana 9 runs, Eoin Morgan 8 runs, Skipper Dinesh Karthik 1 runs, Russell and Tripathi 16 runs and the whole team were made 112/9.

Dinesh Karthik | KKR skipper: He (de Villiers) is a world-class player and hard to stop him on a ground like this and at the end of the day his innings was the difference between both sides. We need to sit down and make sure there are few things we need to do better. Batting is one area we didn’t do well today and that’s something we gonna try and improve. We have three days break and we need to start fresh after that. It’s been an interesting IPL so far as a lot of teams are comfortable batting first. I think every captain has a day like this where everything doesn’t go according to plan and it’s one of those days for me, I don’t want to read too much into it.

Virat Kohli|RCB|skipper: They’ve played good cricket in this IPL. Coming here, it was important to get the right start. Great to see individuals step up when the team requies. Bowling unit, with Morris coming in, looks all the more potent. Very happy. At the toss the pitch didn’t have the usual Sharjah sheen. Knew the wicket was going to get slower and slower. Barring one super-human, everyone struggled on that pitch. Talk was around 165-170. Preparation was really good. Three week camp helped us. Have clarity of plans. Know exactly what we want to do on the field. All depends on the mindset. It’s very positive. If your bowling unit is strong, you have a great chance of going deep in the tournament. Was unbelievable. I thought I had a few balls under my belt so I’ll start striking. But he came in and hit his third ball nicely. On a pitch like that, only AB can do that. It was a special knock. We got 195 purely because of the genius of that man. Always things you can reflect on and say you can improve on these things. All about taking this momentum forward. Don’t want to be complacent.

AB de Villiers: Very happy with the performance. Got a duck in the last game, a terrible feeling. Very happy that I contributed. Surprised myself out there tonight. Knew the wicket was quite tough to bat on. But I thought 145-150 wasn’t enough. So I looked to go further, and was surprised to get 195. They’ve got a really good bowling attack. The margins are small and you have to use every bit of energy. As Virat said there was a light in my eye, felt it in the bus itself. Always enjoyed takng the gloves. Very excited about it, I must say. I do bounce off ideas with Virat. As a keeper you have a really good view of the pace of the game. Different skills completely. It depends. Have worked really hard with the gloves. Want to be the best I could, that’s always been my attitude.
