After a healthy total on Sharjah pitch, England were once skeptical of their win when Wanindu Hasaranga and Dasun Shanaka were batting and looked in the mood to get to the target but 2 wickets in 4 balls of 17th and 18th over changed the fate in England’s favor.
Sri Lanka fell short of their target by 26 runs. Jos Buttler for his batting performance was awarded man of the match.
England who looked the most complete team as they came in the match with 3 comprehensive victories looked in trouble when they lost 3 quick wickets in the powerplay, but Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler came into rescue their team.
Eoin Morgan, who has been out of form for a very long time was able to fetch a 112 run partnership with Jos Buttler, where his contribution was of 40 runs off 36 balls. Jos Buttler who got to his century after hitting a six on the last ball scored 101 off 67 balls. England reached to a total of 163 runs in 20 overs.
Wanindu Hasaranga (21/3), was the only bowler in Sri Lanka’s unit to pick enough wickets.
Sri Lanka chasing 164 lost consecutive wickets in the span of 15-20 runs, as none of the top 5 batters could take their innings ahead after getting a start.
Sri Lanka was 76/5 in 11 overs, with 88 runs still to get in 9 overs. Wanindu Hasarnga 34(21) and Dasun Shanaka 26(25) got 54 runs partnership and really looked in good touch to get the target. Both the batters batted decently, where along with running between the wickets, there were boundaries in every over to change the result in any favor.
It was the 5th ball of the 17th over, where Wanindu Hasarnga hit a shot over long-off into the gap but a brilliant piece of fielding from Jason Roy was all it took to get the dangerous-looking Hasaranga’s wicket.
Dasun Shanaka getting along with Hasarnga also got run after 3 balls, when Jos Buttler was good enough to throw the ball on the stumps when Shanaka was caught out of the crease.
It was an easy win for England after getting these 2 wickets, as there were no more batters to get 34 runs in 3 overs, resulting in victory for England.
