Chasing an easy total of 56 runs, Jos Buttler finished the match hitting a four of Pollard’s slower one to ensure England go on top of the table of Group 1.

Moen Ali for his tactical bowling performance was given man of the match. He got 2 wickets in his 4 overs, giving only 17 runs. Adil Rashid also took 4 wickets in his spell of 2.2 overs.

Pitches in UAE are predicted to be slow and low-scoring, same was also seen during the Indian Premier League matches but no one expected this low score from the giants of T20 cricket.

It would not be fair to say that a partnership helped West Indies to get to that total, because there wasn’t any partnership. First innings of the match was single handedly dominated by England bowlers, who did not let anyone except Gayle to get to a double-digit score.

Adil Rashid’s 4 wicket haul, and Moen Ali and Tymal Mills 2-2 wicket each restricted West Indies to 55 runs.

West Indies needed a miracle to save this match, because however difficult the pitch is, to
defend 55 runs is next to impossible task.

West Indians got some early wickets but in a total of 55, 4 early wickets could not turn the fate into West Indies favor and with Jos Buttler scoring 24 runs off 22 balls got England to win their opening match.

This was England’s first win against West Indies in T20 World Cup. West Indies had earlier won 5 matches against England.

England is now on top of the table of Group 1.

Indian will play Pakistan on October 24 at Dubai International Stadium.
