Mumbai Indians struggling middle-order once again becomes the reason to be on the losing
side of the match.

Delhi Capitals who restricted Indians to 129 lost early 3 wickets but managed to defeat Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets.

Delhi Capitals won the toss and invited Mumbai Indians to bat first. In the very second over of the match, the most reliable batsman for MI, Rohit Sharma offered a massive top-edge edge of Avesh Khan’s ball to get caught on the third man. Axar Patel who took 3 wickets in the match got De Kock out in his first over.

Out of form Suryakumar Yadav did hit some fine shots to take MI’s score to 66 in 10 overs but got out on Axar Patels’ full toss delivery on long-on. Saurabh Tiwary, Hardik Pandya, and Krunal Pandya did try to score runs but Delhi’s pace attack made sure to not leave loopholes in their bowling and restricted them to 129 for 8 in 20 overs.

Chasing 130 on Sharjah’s pitch Delhi Capitals lost their opening partnership in 3 overs. Shikhar Dhawan was short enough in his crease to get run out and Krunal Pandya’s lower bouncer got Prithvi Shaw LBW in his first over.

Steven Smith playing his second match in the UAE leg of the IPL hit Bumrah for a six on deep backward square before getting bowled on Coulter-Nile’s slower delivery, leaving Delhi Capitals on 30 for 3 in 4 overs. Rishabh Pant’s attacking game lifted Delhi’s scorecard to 57.

With 57 for 4 in 8 overs and MI’s lethal bowling attack, it could still have been anyone’s game.

Shreyas Iyer still being out there and rotating the strike made the Capitals scorecard ticking and they required 30 in last 5 overs with 4 wickets in hand.

Mature innings from Shreyas Iyer and a valuable contribution from Ravi Ashwin ensured Delhi Capitals their 9th win with 5 balls remaining.

Mumbai Indians currently sixth on the table had to win their remaining two matches and rely on KKR and PBKS results to stay in the run for playoffs. Delhi Capitals strengthened their stint to finish in top two of the points table.

Chennai Super Kings is facing Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi.
