Chennai Super Kings playing their 9th IPL final won it for the 4th time defeating KKR by 27 runs at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Batting first CSK posted 192 on the scorecard defending Knight Riders to 165. Faf du Plessis scored 86 off 59 balls.

Team chasing at Dubai will be in advantage was said in the pitch report, and 160 was the
predicted score for the first innings, but defying the odds CSK got 192 in their name.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, the leading run-scorer of the tournament, and Faf du Plessis, second leading run-scorer of the tournament gave super kings the desired start, getting 50 runs in the powerplay.

It was a fairy tale batting performance for CSK’s batting order where everyone contributed to the total with a decent strike rate. Robin Uthappa in the middle overs kept going giving the message that he is a big match player, Robbie smoked 3 sixes in his 31 runs innings, and Moeen Ali took the onus in the death overs to give CSK bowlers the above par score to defend.

Innings saw Rururaj Gaikwad climbing on the top spot and Faf just 2 runs behind him in the run for highest run-scorers of the tournament.

Kolkata Knight Riders who also had a similar story when it comes to the opening pair began as expected adding 55 runs in the powerplay. Venkatesh Iyer having a dream debut season for himself 3 sixes and 5 fours in his 50 run innings.

It was again a similar story for KKR where the middle order of their batting lineup disappointed again losing wickets in consecutive overs.

Shardul Thakur who often takes 2 wickets in his over repeated the fate again dismissing Iyer and Nitish Rana in the 11th over. Sunil Narine was promoted up in the batting order replacing Rahul Tripathi who got his hamstring injured while fielding in the first innings.

KKR lost 8 wickets in 34 runs after having an opening stand of 91 runs. Shardul Thakur took 3 wickets whereas Ravindra Jadeja and Josh Hazelwood took 2 wickets each. Shivam Mavi and Lockie Ferguson had a 39-run stand between them but it was a too-late story for them to get anywhere close to the win.

Dwayne Bravo bowled the last ball of the match and ensured a win for CSK, a win which will be etched in the history of CSK for the 4th time. Celebrations began in CSK’s camp, as they bounced back from 7th position in 2020 to rise to the top of the IPL 2021.
