Punjab Kings star and West Indies cricket icon Chris Gayle has decided to withdraw from IPL 2021 to mentally refresh himself for T20 World Cup 2021 in Dubai.
Chris Gayle who played 2 of Punjab Kings‘s 3 matches in IPL’s second stint at Dubai quits the tournament due to bubble fatigue.
In a Press Release sent by Punjab Kings, Gayle had said, “Over the last few months, I have been a part of the CWI bubble, CPL bubble followed by the IPL bubble, and I wish to mentally recharge and refresh myself”.

Chris Gayle who was a part of the West Indies cricket team against Australia and Sri Lanka, and his Caribbean Premier League team where he helped St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to win their maiden title, flew directly from CPL to IPL.
Chris Gayle further thanked Punjab Kings to understand his concern and giving him the time off. “My thanks to the Punjab Kings for giving me the time off. My wishes and hopes are with the squad always. All the very best for the games coming up”, he further said in the Press Release.
Punjab Kings management and coach Anil Kumble has respected his decision calling him a ‘true professional’.
The stage for T20 World Cup is set to begin on 17th October with the Super 12 stage as soon IPL finishes in Dubai, whereas West Indies who had already qualified for the stage will begin its campaign from 25th October against New Zealand.
Players quitting due to fatigue
Since the embarkment of COVID-19 and bio bubbles, there have been players withdrawing from the bubble due to fatigue and limited movement it restricts on the payers, to not exhaust themselves mentally. Ben Stokes earlier pulled out of the England Test Squad, missing his series against India.
IPL too has seen many players not being part of the tournament citing the reason for Bubble fatigue.
