The camp of Afghanistan was filled with joy when Afghanistan won against Scotland in their opening T20 World Cup Super-12 stage at Sharjah Cricket Stadium

Reason behind such a joyful celebration of Afghanistan was not only a win but a win by 130 runs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman picked 5 wickets for Afghanistan. This was Afghanistan’s biggest victory in T20 in terms of runs.

It was not one of the best days for Scotland, as they had to begin the match losing the toss and have to bowl first. Not only the toss but their bowling let them down, Michael Leask who came to bowl second over was smashed for 18 runs in his over, Mohammad Shahzad and HazratullahZazai hit sixes in his over, and then was the 5th overs bowled by Bradley Wheal which saw 16 runs.

Scotland got the first breakthrough in the 6th over when Mohammad Shahzad could not get enough distance and ended up giving catch at mid-wicket. HazratullahZazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz took the innings ahead, and Zazai showed that why he has been so consistent for Afghanistan’s batting line-up and played some furious drives and sweep shots before he got out on the score of 82, Zazai scored 44 off 30 balls. Young Gurbaaz was still present at the crease with Najibullah Zadran and got an 87 run partnership.

The partnership of 87 runs was in itself a package of what cricket looks like. Enough single and doubles with the required boundaries in each over. Gurbaaz and Najibullah together hit 7 sixes and 6 fours. A little cameo from Mohammad Nabi, in the end, helped Afghanistan to get 190 runs in 20 overs.

Scotland needed 191 and the intention from Scotland was clear right from the first over, they will take on Afghanistan’s bowling right from the starting, and they got 27 in the first 3 overs without even conceding a wicket, but the first 3 overs were what was going to be in favor of Afghanistan. Once Mujeeb Ur Rahman got Kyle Coetzer in the 4th over, it was all spinner’s game left for the day.

Mujeeb took 3 wickets in the 4th over, and Scotland’s batting scattered like a deck of cards, after having an opening stand of 28 runs, Scotland lost all their 10 wickets in the span of 32 runs. It was Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan’s day after that, as both the bowlers picked 9 wickets, with the former one picking 5 and the latter one picking 4 wickets. 9 Scotland batters either got LBW pr bowled, which is the most in the T20 game ever.

Afghanistan with 2 points is now the table topper of Group 2.

South Africa will play West Indies, and Pakistan will play New Zealand on the 26th of October.
