The Lanka Premier League saw tempers flare when Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir had an on-field face-off with Afghan Naveen-ul-Haq and Shahid Afridi also got into the mix after the match.

6 matches into the Lanka Premier League 2020 and the competition has already seen some wonderful performances on the field. On Monday, Kandy Tuskers beat Galle Gladiators by 25 runs in Hambantota, but the match was dominated by a couple of on-field battles. At the end of the game, Pakistan pacer, Mohammad Amir, batting for Galle Gladiators, had a fierce exchange with Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq of the Tuskers, with both players trying to get into each other’s face. Amir was seen starting some verbal volleys at the 21-year-old Afghan as he walked off the field, with Naveen-ul-Haq too refusing to back down. As the members of the two teams shook hands after the match, an angry Galle Gladiators captain Shahid Afridi was also seen losing temper exchanging a few words with Naveen-ul-Haq.

Brendan Taylor’s half-century helped Kandy Tusker to a huge total of 196 runs in their 20 overs. In response, Danushka Gunathilaka played a brilliant knock of 82 off 53 balls but the Gladiators succumbed to their third defeat in as many games, losing by 25 runs.

Brendan Taylor, playing his first innings of the tournament, made the Tuskers’ only half-century, with an unbeaten 51 off 35. Along the way, Perera made 27 off 24 and Kamindu Mendis struck 28 off 16 in a 65-run stand with Taylor.

In the chase, Danushka Gunathilaka smashed a 53-ball 82 but found no support from his teammates. Afridi was dismissed for a golden duck as the Gladiators could only manage 171 for seven in their quota of 20 overs.

Afridi’s Galle Gladiators have had a horror start to their LPL 2020 campaign. They have played three matches and lost all three to hold the last place in the LPL points table.

After the match ended, when players from both sides were out in the ground, shaking hands, Shahid Afridi was smiling until Naveen came up and Afridi asked him what he was saying to Amir. ‘Kya Hua [What Happened],’ he asked. Notably, the lad disrespectfully is seen replying to Afridi’s question.

The Gladiators are the only team to not win even a single match this season.

Kandy Tuskers have had a blazing time, but recorded their first win of the tournament on Monday. They escalated to the third spot in the five-team table with a win in three games.
