After three hard-fought games against her Spanish opponent, India’s double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu progressed to the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Masters Super 750 badminton tournament on Thursday

Sindhu, who is seeded third, defeated Clara Azurmendi of Spain in the second round of the women’s singles matches in 47 minutes.

In the quarterfinals, the two-time Olympic medalist will meet world no. 30 and unseeded Turkish shuttler Neslihan Yigit. Sindhu has a 3-0 record against the Turkish in head-to-head play.

However, young Lakshya Sen in the men’s singles event and Dhruv Kapila and N Sikki Reddy in the mixed doubles event were eliminated.

The 20-year-old Lakshya, who had reached the semi-finals at Hylo Open Super 500 and the final of the Dutch Open recently, went down 13-21 19-21 to the top seed and two-time world champion Kento Momota of Japan in a 46-minute clash.

Kapila and Sikki, on the other hand, lost a hard-fought 15-21 23-21 18-21 battle to the Thai duo of Supak Jomkoh and Supissara Paewsampran in the second round mixed doubles match.
